A Line in the Sand.

Let’s be honest for a second: looking up a recipe or planning a trip online has become completely exhausting.

You click a link because you want to know how to balance a braise or catch a regional train, and instead, you’re hit with a wall of someone’s “husband’s favourite dish”, three video autoplays, and a layout that jumps around so much you lose your place entirely. It’s messy, it’s frustrating, and it feels like a waste of your time.

Lemon & Life is doing things differently.

Going forward, consider this your de-influenced corner of the internet. Here is what you can always expect from me:

  • Utility First: Every recipe features a clean "Jump to Recipe" button (this isn’t new, I know) at the absolute top, with ingredients scaled accurately by weight and whatever else I think works. No filler, no novels. Short stories, and important shit.

  • Zero Sponsored Bias: If a destination or a dish isn't worth your hard-earned money, I will tell you exactly why. No toxic positivity. I’m also not a dick, so don’t think I’m going to berate a business.

  • A Clean Reading Room: No aggressive, immediate pop-ups freezing your mobile screen while you're trying to cook or navigate a new city.

Just thoughtful, well-vetted, and intentional food and travel guides meant to complement your life—not clutter it.

Okay, let me introduce myself.. I’m Janel!

A Canadian Maritime native who has made the Caribbean home, I have a diverse professional history. I spent my formative years in hospitality (bartending/serving) before transitioning a decade ago to a digital media career, where I currently specialize in multimedia and Squarespace web design. If you’re interested in my real job, you can check me here!

I’m a huge Foodie and love to travel; this blog is my creative hobby, where I get to blend some skills with the things I love. So here we are! I’m dedicated to discovering cool places, developing good recipes and sharing all of it here with you. This blog is a slow burn, however, as it is not my full-time job. Having said that, I would love for you to stick around :)

Lemon&Life is all about celebrating the good things in life: great food, memorable travel, and a beautifully curated home. In the kitchen, we prioritize meals that are healthy, flavourful, and veggie-forward, featuring plenty of plant-based recipes with occasional forays into fish or meat. But because life is about balance, you'll also find my favourite comfort foods, tempting desserts, and cheat-day classics. Beyond the plate, stick around for captivating (short) travel stories that capture the world's beauty and unique flavours, plus curated home goods and lifestyle content to inspire a simple, well-lived life both inside and out of the kitchen.

I also prioritize sourcing sustainable ingredients and make a concerted effort to support local farmers.

Living in the Caribbean presents unique challenges for ingredient accessibility. I love adding my twist to any recipe I come across. Whether you call it Caribbean fusion or a blend of North American flair, my goal is simple: to feed you well and to share delicious dishes!
