Graham’s Place, Guanaja, Honduras
Welcome to Honduras
When you type in Honduras in your search engine these days, you’ll be met with articles displaying travel advice and advisories about the dangers of visiting the country. Honduras has been at high risk for years now; with crimes, robberies, and many other unmentionable behaviours.
It’s truly an unfortunate circumstance for those living there, and those who want to visit. Fortunately, I had a completely different experience and I’m here to tell you all about it.
Okay, wait. I suppose I should clarify that I spent my time within the Bay Islands and not within Honduras. When I was working for Vagabond Media, one of my last few video projects was to shoot a segment for a hotel called Graham’s Place, which was located on a small water lot next to the island of Guanaja.
We flew from Grand Cayman directly to La Ceiba, and hopped on a propeller plane, 20 minutes to Guanaja. We were then picked up by the hotel’s manager, Alex, by boat, and in 10 minutes, arrived at the hotel. It was one beautiful week of work, almost always in bare feet with hardly any wifi and a few guests about.
